Moonrot Journal’s debut issue “Autumn Rot” is now live, just in time for Samhain. I am honored and excited that my poem “The Wild Hunt” has been included among such wonderful work in their inaugural issue, and you may read my poem below.
The entire issue is free to read (it’s a PDF download) and may be found here.
The Wild Hunt
Deep below the fairy mound
the restless horde gathers
In the dark cauldron of memory
where souls and shadows are bound
The drum sounds the death requiem
A grave withering beat
One by one, the horde emerges
Led by the Phantom Queen
Atop a black-night mare she sits
With sepulchral raven’s wings on her back
She takes flight and the horde follows
A ghastly legion of hunters and misfits
The veils are thin between the living and dead
The other worldly gates have opened
On this All Hallows Eve time is a dying pulse,
as the Hunter’s Moon waxes blood red
This ghostly horde chases the moon across the sky
Their drums are hammering a rhythm of dread
that are carried on the galloping winds
A harbinger to the Phantom Queen’s battle cry
